Raccoons are exceptionally good mothers and will do everything to get her babies back if they’re separated. Please, folks, if you have raccoons in the attic, don’t let a “nuisance control operator” remove and euthanize her. They say they’ll “relocate” her. Not only is it illegal and cruel, it is more likely they’ll gas or drown her. Also, relocating a raccoon will take her away from her nest, and jeopardize her survival in an unfamiliar territory. There are humane ways to get the whole family out and moved safely. I can’t tell you how many orphans I’ve had to care for in previous years because some moron pest controller killed the mother.

Please don’t consider having one for a pet, for so many good reasons, including that they are illegal to be kept in most states. Please read this article by my rehabber friend Annette:  and this one:
